Class Specs
Beginner Equitation Over Fences: Open to riders in their
1st year of showing over fences. May trot or canter over
four (4) fences 18" in height. Flat class is walk/trot only.
Rider NOT allowed to cross-enter into any other over
fences class or division.
Hunter Hack: Open to all riders. To jump 2 fences at 2' or
2'6" (show management will choose one jump height for
all.) After 2nd fence, hand gallop to marker, halt, back 4
steps. Posted pattern. 2nd half of class is on the flat.
Baby Green Hunter: Open to all horses/ponies showing in
their first year over fences. May trot or canter. Fence
heights 2’ or 2'6".
Green Hunter: Open to all horses/ponies in their 1st or 2nd
year of showing over fences. Fence height 2', 2'6",or 3'.
VHSA minimum jump height 2'6".
Pony Hunter: Open to ponies 14.2 hands and under. Fence
heights 2' or 2'6". Adults may not ride ponies. VHSA
minimum jump height: medium 2', large 2'6".
Adult/Amateur Hunter: Open to adult amateur riders.
Fence height 2', 2'6",or 3'. VHSA min. jump height 2'6".
Junior/Childrens Hunter: Open to riders 17 years and
under. No ponies allowed in this division. Fence height
2',2'6", 3'. VHSA min. jump height 2'6".
Working Hunter: Open to all riders and horses. Fence
heights 2'6" or 3'.
THFSS/VHSA Associate Equitation: Open to all riders.
Judged strictly on equitation To show a course of fences
with rail work as second half of class. Fence heights 2'6", 3'.
Halter: Judged on conformation of breed represented
without presence of lameness. All 1st and 2nd place horses
showing in any halter class qualifies for the Halter
Championship (no class fee.)
Showmanship: Open to all. To be judged in a pattern
(posted) performed in hand. With scoring emphasized on
grooming, fitness, attire, and performance.
Hunter Pleasure Horse/Junior: Open to horses only with
adult and junior riders. Walk/Trot/Canter with middle class
‘Go As You Please’. The horses and ponies may be
combined at the discretion of show management.
Hunter Pleasure Pony: Open to junior riders on ponies
only. Walk/Trot/Canter with middle class ‘Go As You
Please’. The horses and ponies may be combined at the
discretion of show management.
Western Pleasure: Open to horses/ponies shown in
western attire/tack. No gaited horses. Walk/Jog/Lope
with middle class as a Go As You Please.
Green Pleasure: Open to all horses/ponies in their 1st or
2nd year of showing. First and third class is walk/trot or
jog with a mandatory canter/lope in middle class.
Walk-Trot: Open to all horses and ponies. Division
specifies age of rider. To be shown at the walk-trot.
This division is not open to gaited horses/ponies.
Horsemanship(western): Open to all western riders.
Judged strictly on rider’s equitation. Walk/Jog/Lope.
Non Trotting classes: Open to all non-trotting breeds
and non-trotting grade horses/ponies. All classes are
walk-gait. Youth may show the equitation class to complete
thia division.
Baby Green Hunter: Open to all horses/ponies showing in their
first year over fences. May trot or canter. Fence heights 2' or 2'6".
Model Hunter In-Hand: Open to horses/ponies judged on conformation
and movement. 3yrs old and older must be shown in a snaffle bridle.
2 yr olds and younger have the option of a halter.
Novice Pleasure: Open to riders in their 1st or 2nd year of showing.
All classes are walk/trot or jog with a GAYP as the middle class. Novice
riders may not cross enter into any other class/division except Walk-Trot.
Equitation class to be judged strictly on the rider.
Huntseat Equitation: Open to all hunter riders. Shown at the
walk/trot/canter and judged strictly on the rider's equitation.
Judge may ask for a simple pattern.
Baby Green Pleasure: Open to all horses/ponies 5 years or younger.
All classes are walk/trot or jog.
Trainers Showdown: Open to all professionals, all disciplines,
and breeds (including non-trotting.) To be judged as a pleasure class at
the walk/trot-jog/canter-lope.
